He is an amazing person. It's rare to see doctors who are very kind... More then a doctor, we can call him a family member. He treats very well, The way he explains, His patience level is top notch. He is always available on wats app, He responds to your calls on time not like other doctors who don't even care post surgery and consultation. Trust me, I had a Sinus issue due to which he recommended me to one ENT doctor and not taken a consultation fee too stating, it's not related to lungs problem. Very kind, great human being and an excellent doctor, who can be recommended blindly without second thought. Thank you Sir 😊.

Lung Cancer Awareness Programme

"Breathe Hope. Fight Lung Cancer."

Lung Cancer Facts in India

Prevalence & Statistics

  • 4th most common cancer in India
  • ~70,000 new cases yearly (GLOBOCAN 2022)
  • 3:1 more common in men, rising in women
  • 60–70% detected late (Stage III/IV)

Leading Risk Factors

  • Tobacco: 80% of cases due to smoking
  • Chewing tobacco also raises risk
  • Air pollution (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata worst affected)
  • Occupational: asbestos, silica, coal mining
  • Genetic, lifestyle, urban sedentary habits

Survival Rates & Challenges

  • 5-year survival <15% overall; <5% in Stage IV
  • No national screening program
  • Expensive treatments (₹2–5 lakhs/month)
  • Stigma delays symptom reporting

Regional Variations

  • High burden: Northeast, Kerala, metros
  • Urban areas: More cases due to pollution/smoking
  • Rural cases rising: Chulha smoke, low awareness

Symptoms & Prevention

  • Signs: Persistent cough, bloody sputum, chest pain
  • Tobacco laws exist, but enforcement is weak
  • NGOs working on awareness & early detection
  • India involved in EGFR therapy trials

Lung Cancer Screening Programme

Why Screening Matters

  • Detects tumors before symptoms appear
  • Early stage detection: 50–80% 5-year survival
  • No national screening program in India
  • Awareness is key to saving lives

Who Should Be Screened?

  • Ages 50–80 (or 40+ with strong risk factors)
  • Current/former smokers (quit <15 years ago)
  • ≥20 pack-years smoking history
  • Pollution/asbestos/biomass exposure
  • Family history of lung cancer

Screening Methods

  • LDCT: Detects 2–3mm tumors, low radiation
  • Annual scan for high-risk individuals
  • Chest X-Ray not reliable for early detection
  • Sputum test rarely used (low accuracy)

Challenges in India

  • LDCT available only in urban private hospitals
  • Cost: ₹5,000–10,000 per scan
  • No government program for lung screening
  • Stigma among smokers delays testing

Key Takeaways

  • High-risk? Get LDCT yearly after age 50
  • Push for policy changes in India
  • Awareness > Fear. Early detection saves lives

“Don’t Wait for Symptoms. Scan Today. Breathe Easy Tomorrow.”
